Betsy Houlton, who joined the Robinson team in 2008 was born in Manhattan, NYC in 1965.
The decorative and industrial ironwork of the cityscape fostered an early interest in metalwork.
She attended Columbia Grammar high school where Art History was offered on the university
level, and the city's galleries and museums doubled as the course textbook. There, she discovered
her love of writing about art. Betsy graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown,
Connecticut in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Journalism would continue as a career
path, and writing about metalwork remains a strong interest. This literary path perhaps stemmed
from her mother, Peggy Mann, who was a prolific New York author.
In 1992, Betsy wanted to gain firsthand experience in forging metal and was taken on as an
apprentice in the blacksmith shop at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, CT. From here
she went to work in a number of forges in both America and Europe, finally entering the
workshop of Antony and Simon Robinson.
When Forge Robinson moved to Normandy in 2006, Betsy came to archive the works of the
Robinsons, and in 2009, Simon and Betsy were married. Betsy continues to work on small
private commissions and assists in the larger works, while also heading up, marketing and
administration.
